Ladybug Ladybug

At the last minute, I realized that Zoë had grown out of her princess costume, and rather than take her to the My Gym party dressed as Slutty Snow White, we opted for the Ladybug costume. The ladybug costume was already on the agenda for Halloween night (it's very warm), so it was ready to go.

Unfortunately, Zoë was feeling a bit punk (not in the Black Flag/Sex Pistols sort of way) on Halloween, and didn't really enjoy herself as much as we hoped she would. I'm probably an irresponsible dad for taking her to the party in the first place, since she had the warning signs of a cold, but I didn't want her to miss out! It really was cool to see all the kids in their costumes, but Zoë was much more reserved than normal.

We almost skipped the trick-or-treating with her playdate friends, but at the last minute she rallied and we headed out. Now let me just say, for the benefit of all you youngsters out there, that when I was a kid, Trick or Treating was a huge event. Not so much, these days. At least not where we were. We managed less than a dozen houses with candy, and saw no other costumed kiddies while we walked. LAME! Zoë was still a bit fragile, but seemed to be having a good enough time. I wasn't sure until the ride home, however. Stacey said (we were in different cars because of the aforementioned almost cancelling) they were singing along to the CD player, and that in the gap between songs she heard Zoë talking to herself, rather than singing. When she turned down the stereo, she could hear - very softly from the back seat - "trick or treat     trick or treat." Next year, we're carpetbagging to a decent, candyful, neighborhood for the tricking and treating!
