You know how, when you go to the doctor, you hope they find something wrong with you – not because you want something to be wrong with you, but because finding something wrong means that they can (theoretically) do something to make it better?
I’ve been dealing with itchy eyes, congestion, and snoring for quite a while – and it sucks. Over the counter drugs didn’t help. Miracle solutions purchased from the internet didn’t help. Even medicine prescribed by my primary care physician didn’t help. After nearly two years of blindly throwing possible solutions at the problem, I finally went to an allergist.
The good (and bad news) is that he found things with the first set of tests. Apparently, I am allergic to: Apricots, Cinnamon, Clams, Green Peppers, Salmon, and Yeast – both Bakers Yeast and Brewers Yeast. Yay! I’m allergic to practically everything I eat!
Well, maybe not ‘practically everything’ – but between the bakers and brewers yeasts, I’m allergic to all baked goods, enriched pastas, most alcohols, vinegars, hot sauces, most contiments… it’s so not good.
It’s not over. I get to go back again to see what non-food things I am allergic to, then I’ll go on a strict diet for a month to cut out the foods, and then… and then… and then maybe I’ll get shots or electroshock or maybe they’ll just slam my hand in a door until I stop complaining about the allergies.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled to have some confirmation that the allergies are real, it’s just… well, it would have been nice to go in and have the doctor say “did you know you had a feather in your nose?” and have that be it. You know?
